Visit to Brussels and evidence taken from Permanent Secretary in Westminster

The Committee on Exiting the European Union marks the end of the parliamentary recess with a busy opening week of September, which includes a visit to Brussels and an evidence session in Westminster.

On Monday 3 September, the Committee will visit Brussels as part of its over-arching inquiry examining the progress of the UK's negotiations on EU withdrawal. With talks between the UK Government and European Commission having continued through the summer, the Committee will attend a number of meetings with representatives from both sides of the negotiations, including Michel Barnier. Whilst the meeting will be conducted in private, a transcript will be made available in due course.
The following morning, Tuesday 4 September, the Committee will hear from Philip Rycroft, Permanent Secretary at the Department for Exiting the European Union and Head of the UK Governance Group in the Cabinet Office, with responsibility for constitutional and devolution issues. This session is expected to focus on the work on the Department in light of recent changes to the machinery of Government (announced by the Prime Minister on 24 July), and ongoing preparations for the UK's departure from the EU – including under a no deal scenario.
