Future UK-EU relationship examined after European Council summit

11 July 2018

The Exiting the European Union Committee continues its over-arching inquiry examining the progress of the UK's negotiations on EU withdrawal with two sessions examining the latest developments in the UK-EU negotiations.

Purpose of the Session

In the first session, the Committee hears from Professor Michael Dougan of Liverpool University, Henry Newman of the Open Europe think-tank, and Allie Renison of the Institute of Directors. The Committee focuses on the outcomes from the June European Council summit, what shape the future UK-EU relationship may take in light of this week's Cabinet meeting at Chequers, and the timetable for negotiating the future relationship. The Committee also examines the implications of the various future relationship and timetabling options for business.

The Committee reconvenes in the afternoon for a session with Caroline Nokes MP, Minister of State for Immigration. In this second session, the Committee focuses on EU citizens' rights in the UK after Brexit and how the settlement scheme will work.
