Committee examines Parliamentary procedure for approving withdrawal agreement

31 October 2018

The Committee on Exiting the European Union holds an evidence session as part of its over-arching inquiry examining the progress of the UK's negotiations on EU withdrawal.

Purpose of the session

In this session, the Committee investigates the parliamentary procedure for voting on any Withdrawal Agreement and Political Declaration agreed by the Government and European Union, as set out in Section 13 of the EU (Withdrawal) Act. This follows on from the Committee's Report on parliamentary scrutiny and approval of the Withdrawal Agreement and negotiations on a future relationship, published on 28 June.

The Committee also re-examines issues that have become more pertinent as the conclusion of negotiations approaches, including the role of the European Union (Withdrawal Agreement) Bill, how Parliament could influence the negotiations on the future relationship and how the EU institutions could respond to events in the UK.
