Chair's comments
Rachel Reeves MP, Chair of the Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Committee, said:
"It is important that the CMA looks thoroughly at this deal. It must ensure that there is competition in the sector and take a close eye to the potential impact on small businesses in their supply chains who may be at risk of being squeezed yet further on price."
The BEIS Committee previously wrote a joint letter with the EFRA Committee to the CMA raising concerns over the impact that the merger would have on the grocery supply chain and asking for details on the approach of any investigation. The Committee has also previously written to both Sainsbury's and Asda.
