8 May 2018

The Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Committee holds a session examining issues relating to charging infrastructure as part of its inquiry into the development of the market for electric vehicles.

Witnesses

Tuesday 8 May, Committee Room 6, Palace of Westminster

At 10am:

  • Robert Evans, Chair, UK Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment Association
  • Rasita Chudasama, Principal Transport Planner, Nottingham City Council
  • David Martell, CEO, Chargemaster
  • Matthew Eastwood, Head of Transport, Scotland, Energy Saving Trust

Purpose of the Session

Questioning is likely to focus on the major challenges faced by those developing electric vehicle charging infrastructure as well as the funding of and financial support for new chargepoints. MPs could also ask about planning regulations and issues relating to both home and on-street charging solutions.

The panel may also be asked about the Government's £400 million Charging Investment Infrastructure Fund after it was revealed that the process of raising half the money from the private sector has not yet begun.

The Committee's inquiry is exploring the role of electric vehicles in the transition to a low carbon economy. It is investigating the actions needed to support the development of the electric vehicle market, the challenges that electric vehicles represent for the electricity grid, and industrial opportunities for the automotive sector.
