Future of steel industry & Liberty Steel inquiry continues

The Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) Committee continues its inquiry into Liberty Steel & the future of steel industry in UK with a panel including Cynthia O’Murchu, Financial Times Investigative Reporter, and academics Javed Siddiqui, Professor of Accounting, Alliance Manchester Business School, University of Manchester, and Alex Yang, Associate Professor of Management Science and Operations, London Business School.
Sanjeev Gupta, CEO, GFG Alliance has declined to appear to give evidence on 6th July.

Chair's comment
Darren Jones, Chair of the Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Committee, said:
“It is disappointing that Sanjeev Gupta has declined to answer questions in public for our inquiry. I note Mr Gupta has, however, indicated he is willing to engage with the Committee’s inquiry. The BEIS Committee will discuss future steps next week.”
Purpose of the session
The evidence session on Tuesday is likely to examine questions around supply chain finance, audit, corporate governance, and the financial relationship between Greensill Capital and GFG Alliance and also GFG Alliance and Liberty Steel UK.
As part of their inquiry, the BEIS Committee will also be undertaking a private visit on Monday 5th July to Tata Steel Port Talbot and to Liberty Steel Newport.
The Committee’s visits South Wales on the same day as the publication of the Government’s response to the recent Mineworkers’ Pension Scheme report.
