Committee seeks evidence on UK priorites for the UN Secretary General

The Select Committee on International Relations has published its call for evidence and invites all interested parties to submit evidence to the Committee by 5 August 2016.
Comment of Lord Howell of Guildford, Committee Chairman,
"In light of the EU referendum result it is important for the UK to maintain a proactive role in the international organisations to which it belongs. The Secretary-General of the UN is one of the key roles in the international community and we want to understand and clarify what the UK's priorities for the incoming post holder should be."
Areas of Interest
- What are the most significant global challenges facing the UK and international community?
- Where can the UN add value?
- What criteria should guide UN action on international issues?
- What should the UK's priorities for the new UN Secretary-General be?
- Given that the UK will be leaving the EU, how should the UK seek to optimise its influence internationally?
- Is the UN able to respond effectively to new global trends?
Written evidence must be submitted by 5 August. The Committee aims to publish its report to the House with recommendations in October 2016.
