Commission publishes its report on risk-based exclusion of MPs

5 June 2023

Please note, an updated policy on exclusion will be discussed by the House of Commons Commission in December 2023.

The House of Commons Commission has today, Monday 5 June, published its report and supporting documents on risk-based exclusion of Members under criminal investigation for violent or sexual offences.

Report on Risk-based exclusion of MPs: consultation response and proposals (HC 1396).

This follows widespread consultation with groups across Parliament including MPs and House staff, as well as engagement with the House of Lords.

As set out in the report the exclusions proposed would apply to the Parliamentary estate and Parliamentary-funded travel.

Alongside the report three additional documents have been published on a risk identification tool, risk mitigation protocol and terms of exclusion.

The report is provisionally scheduled for debate on Monday 12 June – as announced by the Leader of the House in the Business Statement prior to Whitsun Recess.
