House of Commons Commission statement on social distancing in the Commons
29 June 2020
No change to 2m rule in the Commons
Social distancing in the Chamber and across the House of Commons end of the building will remain at two metres until the summer recess.
The decision was reached by the House of Commons Commission following a meeting with Public Health England on Monday.
It comes after the Government announced it will be introducing a “one metre plus” rule in England from 4 July, when it is not possible to stay 2m apart.
Parliamentary authorities will review the measures before MPs return in September. Changes will only be made in line with government guidance.
The House of Lords Commission will decide on social distancing rules later this week.
