Defence Committee members thank DE&S staff for their support to Ukraine
24 April 2023
Last Thursday, The Defence Committee visited Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S), an arms-length body of the Ministry of Defence and thanked staff for their vital work in support of Ukraine. DE&S manages a range of defence equipment and service purchases for the UK’s armed forces. This visit was intended to inform the work of the Sub-Committee on Defence Equipment and Support.
The Committee met with staff members, including Andy Start, DE&S Chief Executive Office, and Mark Russell, DE&S Chair, as well as the Director Generals for Air, Commercial, Land and Ships.
The Committee was given a tour of DE&S Abbey Wood and an introduction to the organisation. The Committee members were given briefings on the support for current operations, increasing availability and longer-term acquisition programmes, plus DE&S' ongoing work, in support of Ukraine.
Chair's comment
Chair of the Sub-Committee on Defence Equipment and Support, Mark Francois MP, said:
“I would like to thank all those who hosted us during this visit, which was invaluable for the Sub-Committee’s inquiry. The staff were generous with their time and the information we received was extremely detailed and helpful.
“It’s clear from our visit that DE&S is undertaking excellent and important work on Ukraine, ensuring that the UK remains a key supporter in Ukraine’s fight against the Russian invasion and we would like to both thank and commend all those at DE&S for this vital contribution.”
