Former Attorney General appointed as new Chairman

Lord Morris of Aberavon QC, a former barrister and Attorney General, has been appointed as the new Chairman of the House of Lords EU Justice Sub-Committee. Taking over as chairman from July 2019, Lord Morris of Aberavon will lead the Committee in its ongoing work investigating civil rights after Brexit, the threat to human rights protections after Brexit, intellectual property law and the EU, and civil justice cooperation.
Background
Lord Morris of Aberavon has been a member of the House of Lords since 2001. The EU Justice Sub-Committee will be the 10th committee he has served on in the Lords, and the 15th parliamentary committee in total.
Before joining the House of Lords Lord Morris of Aberavon was MP for Aberavon for 42 years during which time he held ministerial positions including: Minister of State at the Ministry of Defence; Secretary of State for Wales; Shadow Attorney General; and Attorney General. He is also currently the Chancellor of Glamorgan University.
