Possible questions
The Committee is particularly interested in hearing evidence on the potential impact that repealing the HRA might have in Northern Ireland.
Amongst other matters, questions are likely to cover:
- The protection of Human Rights in Northern Ireland under the ECHR and the EU's Charter
- The legislative competence of the Northern Ireland Assembly to legislate for any gaps in human rights protection caused by repealing the Human Rights Act
- The potential impact of repealing the Human Rights Act on the current cooperation across the land border with the Republic of Ireland in the EU's Justice and Home Affairs field
- Whether there would be increased reliance on the EU Charter in Northern Ireland's Courts were the Human Rights Act to be repealed.
