Lords hears from experts on the EU Strategic Review
15 July 2015
On 16 July 2015 the EU External Affairs Sub-Committee will hold a seminar on the European Union Strategic Review, launched by the High Representative/Vice President Federica Mogherini, which seeks to reassess the EU's priorities in “a more connected, contested and complex world”.
The discussion will contribute to the Committee's forthcoming inquiry into the Strategic Review. Areas of discussion will include the changing global environment and EU interests, the upheaval in the Middle East and North Africa, and EU capacities and capabilities, including partnerships within multilateral organisations such as NATO.
The following experts will give presentations on these issues, and will then take part in informal discussions with the Committee:
- Dr Spyros Economides, Associate Professor of International Relations and European Politics, LSE
- Joost Hiltermann, Middle East and North Africa Program Director, International Crisis Group
- James de Waal, Senior Fellow, International Security, Chatham House
- Nick Witney, Senior Policy Fellow, European Council on Foreign Relations
The seminar will be held in private in the Archbishops' Room in Millbank House. The Committee plans to publish an open call for evidence for its new inquiry following the seminar.
