BEIS questioned on EU Commission's 'no-deal' stakeholder advice

The EU Energy and Environment Sub-Committee has written to the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, Rt Hon Greg Clark MP, to seek the Government's view on the EU Commission's advice to energy stakeholders on preparing for a ‘no deal' Brexit scenario

Energy implications of a 'no deal'

The European Commission is publishing a series of Notices setting out the consequences for trading and legal arrangements in the event that no Brexit deal is reached by 30 March 2019. Several of these Notices address stakeholders working in the energy industry, and cover the Internal Energy Market, Euratom, and renewable energy guarantees of origin. They state that:

there would be restrictions on the trade of nuclear material;
UK-based operators would not be able to participate in common trading platforms;
certain certificates issued by the UK will no longer be valid in the EU; and
some companies would have to seek permission to continue operating in the EU.

The Committee has written to BEIS' Secretary of State to ask for his assessment of the impact of 'no deal' on the UK's energy industry.
