Areas of discussion
The chemicals sector is the UK's second biggest manufacturing industry, and it exports 55% of its output to the EU. It is currently unclear to what extent the UK will remain involved in the EU's regime for regulating chemicals (REACH) post-Brexit. The approach the Government decides to take will have implications for trading arrangements, the UK's freedom to legislate, costs to Government and businesses, information sharing and the environment.
Likely areas of discussion include:
- The advantages and disadvantages of continuing to participate in REACH vs setting up a domestic regime for regulating chemicals
- What steps Government and businesses need to take to prepare for a possible exit from REACH
- How other non-EU countries interact with REACH
