WEC to hear evidence on the drivers of cosmetic procedures

20 June 2025

The Women and Equalities Committee (WEC) will hear from academics and medical professionals during the second evidence session of its inquiry into the health impacts of breast implants and other cosmetic procedures.

MPs on the cross-party committee chaired by Labour MP Sarah Owen will examine the societal and psychological drivers of cosmetic procedures (both surgical and non-surgical) and discuss the positive and negative mental health impacts of such procedures.

The evidence session is expected to touch upon the issues of social media, advertising, cosmetic tourism, body image and body dysmorphic disorder. The first inquiry evidence session in May explored the PIP implant scandal, the rise in cosmetic procedures, liquid BBLs (Brazilian butt lifts) and liquid boob jobs.
