Media reporting of women in Parliament: Editor of Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday Editor writes to Committee Chair

26 May 2022

Following its evidence session this afternoon on media reporting of women in Parliament, the Women and Equalities Committee has published correspondence from Associated Newspaper Limited, in which Edward Verity, Editor of the Mail Newspapers, commits to appear before the Committee to give further evidence on the subject.

The Committee also heard from representatives from the BBC, Sky News and The Sunday Times, and explored topics including the representation of female politicians in the media and the experiences of female journalists within the Lobby group. The Mail, unable to appear in today's session, wrote to the Committee's Chair to raise a number of concerns which will be discussed in full when Mr Verity meets with the Committee. These include press freedom and the remit of Parliamentary scrutiny.

Details of the upcoming session with the Mail will be published in due course.
