The Women and Equalities Committee hold a one-off session on the report of the Commission on Race and Ethnic Disparities

The Report was published in March 2021 to predominantly negative responses. This evidence session was set up in response to the Committee’s concerns about the Report.

It sets out 24 recommendations to the Government to ‘catalyse the most effective way to meaningfully address disparities and inequalities for all those affected’.

During this session, the Committee will hear from Dr Tony Sewell, the Chair of the Commission, and two of his commissioners.

The main aims of the session are:

  • To scrutinise the Terms of Reference and the priorities of the Commission.
  • The consultation process and the key findings of the Report
  • To explore the Report’s findings on the relationship between disparities, ethnicity and socio-economic status
  • Attitudes to race in the UK today
