Decisions of the Petitions Committee Tuesday 6 December 2016

7 December 2016

This week's decisions included agreeing to find out more information before scheduling a debate on an e-petition relating to car insurance for 18–25 year olds.

The Committee considered all e-petitions which had reached over 100,000 signatures, and those over 10,000 signatures which had received a government response, by Friday 2 December 2016.

Petitions which met these criteria after this date will be considered at the Committee's next meeting on Tuesday 13 December 2016.

Petition debates

The Committee decided not to schedule a debate on this petition because the Investigatory Powers Act recently became law after extensive debate and scrutiny in Parliament. The Act received Royal Assent on 29 November 2016. Links to all the debates on the Bill can be found here: Investigatory Powers Bill.

The Committee has agreed to schedule a debate on this petition.
Before setting a date for the debate, the Committee would like the House of Commons to have the chance to find out more information about the issues raised in the petition. This will help to inform MPs taking part in the House of Commons debate.  More details about this will be announced in due course.
