Decisions of the Petitions Committee Tuesday 18 June 2019

The Committee considered all e-petitions which had reached over 100,000 signatures, and those over 10,000 signatures which had received a government response, by Friday 14 June.

Petitions which met these criteria after this date will be considered at the Committee's next meeting on Tuesday 25 June.    

Petition debates

A debate relating to the BBC:

• Abolish the BBC television license
• Continue to fund free TV licences for the over 75 in the future
• Public inquiry into the bias in the BBC

The Committee decided to schedule a debate in Westminster Hall on the motion “That this House has considered e-petitions 234627, 234797 and 235653 relating to the BBC.” on Monday 15 July at 4.30pm.
Helen Jones, the Chair of the Committee, will open the debate. 

Petitions with over 10,000 signatures which have received a government response

• Change Settlement Status from Application to Registration  

The Committee noted the Government's response. 

• Keep the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, the Red Arrows, in Lincolnshire 

The Committee noted the Government's response. 

• Decriminalise prostitution to promote safety 

The Committee noted the Government's response. 

• Hold an Inquiry into the state of the Police Complaints System and role of IOPC 

The Committee requested a revised response from the Government, which addresses the petition's specific request.

Revised Government responses

• Ban the use of all non-recyclable and unsustainable food packaging 

The Committee noted the revised response, and requested that it be published. 

• Request a Royal Commission to review Parliamentary and electoral systems of U.K.
