Petitions website opening

30 October 2024

The UK Parliament petitions website will open today at 3pm following the formation of the new Petitions Committee.

The Petitions Committee is a group of cross-party MPs who look at e-petitions submitted on petition.parliament.uk. The Committee puts forward petitions for debate and holds the Government to account for its responses to petitions.

Petitions with over 10,000 signatures receive a written Government response. Petitions that reach over 100,000 signatures are considered for debate by the Committee.

Petition debates are held in Westminster Hall on sitting Mondays at 4.30pm. They can be watched live on Youtube or parliamentlive.tv.

Chair's comments

The Chair of the Petitions Committee, Jamie Stone MP said:

"I am very pleased that the new Petitions Committee has formed and the UK Parliament petitions website has re-opened. Since the launching of the site in 2015, many millions of people have signed petitions and 350 petitions have been debated.

"Not only do I recognise the significance of our e-petitions system in giving a voice to seldom-heard communities across our country, but I see its success in building a bridge between people and Parliament. As the newly elected Chair of the Petitions Committee, I am very much looking forward and ensuring that the public get their voices heard in Parliament."
