Arrangements for Ukrainian refugees to enter the UK to be debated by MPs

9 March 2022

On Monday 14 March, MPs will debate a petition relating to arrangements for Ukrainian refugees to enter the UK

Catherine McKinnell MP, Chair of the Petitions Committee, has been asked by the Committee to open the debate. MPs from all parties can take part, and the Government will send a minister to respond.

Waive visa requirement for Ukrainian refugees

The petition, which has more than 144,000 signatures, states: “Join other nations in providing a route to safety for refugees. Waive all visa requirements for Ukrainian passport holders arriving in the UK. They are war refugees, our hands are tied to assist with boots on the ground, let us give the people of Ukraine a safe place for their families and children to flee to.”

The Government has yet to respond to the petition.

What are petitions debates?

Petitions debates are 'general' debates which allow MPs from all parties to discuss the important issues raised by one or more petitions, and put their concerns to Government Ministers.
