The Committee considered all e-petitions which had reached over 100,000 signatures, those over 10,000 signatures which had received a Government response before 23 April 2020.

Petitions with 100,000 signatures

  1. Extend maternity leave by 3 months with pay in light of COVID-19
    The Committee decided to take oral evidence for this petition on 7 May.
    The Committee will consider whether to schedule a debate on this petition once sittings in Westminster Hall have resumed.

Petitions with over 10,000 signatures which have received a Government response

  1. Create an earned amnesty route for migrants without leave to remain.  The Committee requested a revised response from the Government, as the response did not address the petition's specific request.
  2. Reimburse all students of this year's fees due to strikes and COVID-19.
    The Committee requested a revised response from the Government, as the response did not address the petition's specific request. The Chair of the Committee has raised this issue in writing with the Department for Education. The Committee agreed to bring this activity to the attention of petitioners.
  3. Don't criminalise trespass.
    The Committee noted the Government's response.
  4. Pay self employed workers a wage due to lack or earnings caused by COVID-19.
    The Committee noted the Government's response. The Chair of the Committee has raised this issue in writing with the Chancellor of the Exchequer. The Treasury Committee are undertaking an inquiry into the economic impact of coronavirus, and on 21 April took evidence from Association of Independent Professionals and the Self-employed, which included questions on issues such as those raised by this petition. The Committee agreed to bring this activity to the attention of petitioners.
  5. Replace Breed Specific Legislation with a new statutory framework.
    The Committee noted the Government's response.
  6. Repeal the 2013 and 2017 HS2 Hybrid Bills halting all HS2 works immediately.

  7. Give financial help to agency and zero hour workers during COVID-19 outbreak.

  8. We would like the government to consider social care as equally important to NHS.
