Chair of the Speaker's Advisory Committee on Works of Art speaks to BBC ‘Today in Parliament'
16 June 2020
The Chair of the Speaker's Advisory Committee on Works of Art, Hywel Williams MP, spoke to the BBC on 12 June 2020, to discuss the formation of the new Committee and its response to the Black Lives Matter Movement and its impact on the Parliamentary Art Collection.
Mr Williams explained that the purpose of Parliamentary Art Collection is to truthfully reflect the history of Parliament, our democracy and the people who played a part in it.
Diversifying Parliament's Collection has been a strategic aim of the Speaker's Advisory Committee following the Good Parliament Report in 2016. The Committee has also been engaged in broadening the representation of women and BAME groups prior to this, with the Committee renewing this commitment at its meeting earlier last week.
The Committee last met on 10 June 2020.
