Committee on Standards membership appointed

29 October 2024

The House of Commons has formally appointed the full membership of the Committee on Standards.

Each party has its own internal processes for naming its nominations to fill its seats on committees. Individual nominees put forward by political parties were agreed in the House of Commons.

The Committee’s membership includes an equal number of MPs and lay members. Lay members are appointed to the Committee for six years and are not MPs but members of the public, chosen to provide an independent element in the House of Commons' standards system.

Alberto Costa MP was elected as Chair of the Committee by all members of the House of Commons in September.

Details of meetings and the Committee’s forward programme will be announced in due course.
