Scope of the session

The Defence Committee is conducting an inquiry examining the risk of terrorists and other extremists maliciously using drones within the UK, and what the Government should be doing to address this threat.
 
This second evidence session will examine what role the drone industry can play a role in preventing, mitigating and responding to malicious drone use. It will explore what technological solutions are available to counter drones and what regulatory and practical challenges there are to development, adoption and use of counter-drone systems. 

It will also consider whether the police have the powers, technologies and resources they need. Eleven months on from the incident at Gatwick, it will be an opportunity to consider whether the UK is now better prepared to respond to incidents involving the use of drones.
