Children’s social care: Education Committee re-opens inquiry
22 November 2024
The newly-formed Education Committee has re-opened the inquiry into children’s social care that was brought to an early close by the General Election.
The cross-party Committee will continue with the same terms of reference as used in the previous Education Committee inquiry into children’s social care, which launched in December 2023.
It comes after the Government announced new reforms to the sector on 18 November.
More information about the original inquiry, which received 107 pieces of written evidence and held four oral evidence sessions, can be found on the Committee’s website. The new Committee will be holding additional oral evidence sessions.
Chair quote
Education Committee Chair Helen Hayes MP said: “The previous Education Committee received a significant body of evidence concerning not only the problems facing the children’s social care sector, but also potential solutions that could make life better for some of the most vulnerable children across the country.
“Today we’re picking up the baton. This new cross-party Committee will review the valuable evidence already provided to us, listen to new oral evidence and proceed with scrutinising the Government’s new proposals.”
