Education Committee questions Children’s Commissioner on children’s mental health and cost of living impact on families
4 July 2022
Dame Rachel de Souza, the Children’s Commissioner, will face questions from the Education Committee as part of its scrutiny of her role. MPs are expected to examine, after reports that 20% of children are unhappy with their mental health, what steps she has taken to support children’s mental health. Questions may also be asked on her opinion of the Government’s Green Paper on children and young people’s mental health.
Purpose of the session
The session is also likely to cover the recent SEND review and whether the Government is doing enough to support children with SEND right now. After reports that 23% of children not receiving free school meals are food insecure, the Commissioner may face questions on what should be done to support families with children through the cost-of-living crisis.
