Committee correspondence with Ofqual brings clarity for students on summer grade appeals
29 July 2021
The process for students to appeal their teacher assessed grades this summer has been clarified after the Education Committee wrote to the exams regulator.
In response to the Committee’s letter, Ofqual has now updated its guidance to make clear that students must check their school’s deadline for beginning the first stage of an appeal. This deadline is set by individual centres, and must happen before the published deadline for centres to submit second-stage appeals to exam boards
Rt Hon Robert Halfon MP, Chair of the Education Committee, said: “Getting your results can be a stressful time, so it’s really important that where they might have been an error, students don’t face the added anxiety of not being clear on how and when to appeal. We therefore welcome Ofqual’s speedy clarification of the appeals process so nobody will miss out on getting the grades that all their hard work deserves.”
