Committee to hold accountability hearing with School Standards Minister Nick Gibb MP

16 October 2020

On Tuesday, the Education Committee will hold an accountability hearing with Nick Gibb MP, Minister of State for School Standards.

This session is one of the Committee’s regular accountability hearing with the Minister.

Scope of the session

A key area that is likely to be discussed is preparations for next year’s exams, following the Government’s decision that these will take place in England in June. Questions from the Committee are likely to explore how arrangements will factor in learning loss, and what contingency plans are being developed, given the uncertainty of the period ahead.

There are also likely to be questions on the Government’s education catch-up initiatives and how these are helping to tackle the variability in learning that has taken place since March.

Finally, the Committee may also explore school funding, school attendance and other issues within the Minister’s portfolio of responsibilities.
