Purpose of the session

This session will be an opportunity for the Committee to ask questions of Michelle Donelan MP, the Minister of State for Universities. Her portfolio includes:

  • strategy for post-16 education (jointly with the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Apprenticeships and Skills)
  • universities and higher education reform
  • higher education student finance (including the Student Loans Company)
  • widening participation in higher education
  • quality of higher education and the Teaching Excellence Framework
  • international education strategy including education exports international students and technology in education (Edtech)
  • Opportunity Areas programme.

Michelle Donelan MP took up her current Ministerial role in February 2020. From September 2019 she was Parliamentary Under-Secretary at the Department of Education. She was a Member of the Education Committee from September 2017 until October 2018, and from July 2015 to May 2017.
