Edward Timpson questioned on his review of school exclusions
28 June 2019
The Education Committee hears from Edward Timpson CBE, Chair of Child Safeguarding Practice Review Panel on his review into school exclusions.
Witness
Tuesday 2 July in Committee Room 6, Palace of Westminster
At 10am
- Edward Timpson CBE
Purpose of the session
The Government-commissioned report, which was published in May, proposed that schools be made more accountable for excluded pupils and that exclusions should only ever be used as a last resort.
The Committee published a report on alternative provision last year, warning of the 'scandal of ever-increasing exclusions'. It also called for more accountability and for schools to be more inclusive in their approach to pupils who could be classified as difficult or challenging.
Members are likely to want to use the session to explore some of the recommendations of the Timpson review and the Government's response.
