Sir Michael Barber endorsed for Office of Students Chair

Sir Michael Barber's appointment as Chair of the Office for Students (OfS) has been endorsed by the Education Committee in a report published today.

Sir Michael is the Government's preferred candidate for the role and was questioned by the Committee at a public pre-appointment hearing in Parliament on Tuesday 21 February 2017.
Chair's comment
Neil Carmichael MP, Chair of the Education Committee, said:
"The breadth of Sir Michael's experience puts him in a strong position to establish and Chair the Office for Students. We hope that Sir Michael will bring his knowledge of global education to bear in benefit of higher education in England at a time of significant change following the vote to leave the European Union"
The role
Subject to the passage of the Higher Education and Research Bill, the Office for Students will combine the roles of the Higher Education Funding Council for England and the Office for Fair Access.
