Chamber debate on education funding in London

On Wednesday 4 May, MPs took part in a Chamber debate on a motion on education funding in London. This debate was scheduled by the Backbench Business Committee following a representation from Robert Neill MP.

Text of the motion
"That this House notes the Government's intention to implement a new funding formula for schools from April 2017; welcomes the Department for Education's commitment to hold a detailed consultation on this proposal; calls on the Government to recognise the unique challenges schools in London face; and further calls on the Government to ensure any changes to the funding model are both fair and proportionate to London's needs."
Backbench Business Committee
The Backbench Business Committee meets weekly on Tuesdays to consider requests for debates from any backbench Members of Parliament on any subject.
The Committee then has to decide how to allocate the limited Parliamentary time it has at its disposal. The Committee's meetings are always conducted in public and can be watched on Parliament TV
