MPs debate new cancer strategy

On Thursday 19 November MPs took part in a debate on a motion relating to a new cancer strategy in the House of Commons Chamber. This debate was scheduled by the Backbench Business Committee following a bid from John Baron, Jo Churchill, David Tredinnick on 3 November.

This debate was opened by John Baron, Conservative MP for Basildon and Billericay.

Text of the motion

'That this House notes the findings of the independent cancer taskforce published in July 2015; and calls on the Government to publish an action plan on implementing the new cancer strategy.'

Backbench Business Committee

The Backbench Business Committee meets weekly on Tuesdays to consider requests for debates from any backbench Members of Parliament on any subject.

The Committee then has to decide how to allocate the limited Parliamentary time it has at its disposal. The Committee's meetings are always conducted in public and can be watched on Parliament TV.
