MPs to debate state pensions payable outside of the UK

On Thursday 20 April MPs will debate a motion on state pensions payable to recipients outside of the UK in the House of Commons.

Sir Roger Gale and Ian Blackford will open and lead the debate.

Motion to be debated:

"That this House, noting the detrimental effect that the Social Security Benefits Up-rating Regulations 2017 will have on the lives of many expatriate UK citizens living overseas with frozen pensions; and insists that the Government take the necessary steps to withdraw those Regulations."

Backbench Business Committee

The Backbench Business Committee meets weekly on Tuesdays to consider requests for debates from any backbench Members of Parliament on any subject.

The Committee then has to decide how to allocate the limited Parliamentary time it has at its disposal. The Committee's meetings are always conducted in public and can be watched on Parliament TV.
