Ian Mearns MP re-elected as Chair of Backbench Business Committee

As the only candidate for the position of Chair, the Member for Gateshead was elected unopposed.
Speaker's comments
The Speaker of the House of Commons, Rt Hon John Bercow MP, announced Mr Mearns' re-election in the Commons Chamber on 21st October 2019, commenting:
“The assiduity and public-spiritedness of the hon. Gentleman are renowned throughout the House”.
Ian Mearns will take up his position as Chair of the Backbench Business Committee with immediate effect.
