Nick Smith MP elected as Chair of the House of Commons Administration Committee

At its first meeting on Tuesday 26 November, the Administration Committee for the 2024 Parliament elected from among its membership Nick Smith MP as Chair.
Nick Smith has been a sitting MP since May 2010, representing the constituency of Blaenau Gwent and Rhymney. Prior to his election as Chair, Nick held positions as the Shadow Deputy Leader of the House, as an Opposition Whip and also sat on the Public Accounts Committee.
Following the result, Nick Smith said: “I am delighted to have been elected by my colleagues as Chair of the House of Commons Administration Committee. There’s much for the Committee to be getting on with in this Parliament, and while MPs will be focusing on a busy legislative agenda, we’ll also be making sure that the House is working as effectively as possible to support MPs in their work. I look forward to working collaboratively with the committee, to deliver the best results for all those who work here.”
As Chair of the Administration Committee, Nick Smith will also sit on the House of Commons Commission, which has overall responsibility for the administration and services of the House of Commons.

- Management of the buildings and facilities which make up the parliamentary estate
- Digital services
- Communications and broadcasting
- Education, public outreach and engagement
