The evidence session takes place on Monday 12 October in Committee Room 2, Palace of Westminster.

At 4.05pm:

  • Rt Hon David Lidington MP, Minister for Europe

EU Reform

The Committee published a report on 'The referendum on UK membership of the EU: assessing the reform process', highlighting the need for transparency in the process leading up to the referendum.

In Monday's session the Committee will ask the Minister to explain what progress the Government has made in its discussions with the EU institutions and other Member States, and in defining both its reform objectives and its long-term vision for the EU.

The refugee crisis

The main item on the agenda for the EU summit on 15 and 16 October is the refugee crisis, and the Minister is likely to be asked about the contribution that the UK is making to the development of a co-ordinated European response to the crisis.

Members of the Committee may also ask about other items on the European Council agenda, including efforts to introduce greater co-ordination and convergence within the Eurozone.
