Members of Lords EU Committee attend 54th COSAC in Luxembourg

From Sunday 29 November to Tuesday 1 December 2015 a delegation from the Lords EU Committee attends the 54th Conference of Parliamentary Committees for Union Affairs of Parliaments of the European Union (COSAC) in Luxembourg. During the conference the EU Committee, alongside the House of Commons European Scrutiny Committee, co-hosts an informal meeting with parliamentarians to discuss the UK Government's EU reform proposals

What is COSAC?

The Conference of Parliamentary Committees for Union Affairs of Parliaments of the European Union (COSAC) was established in 1989. It meets biannually, in whichever country holds the rotating Presidency of the EU, giving members of parliamentary committees and the European Parliament an opportunity to discuss issues of current concern.

Delegation

The Lords delegation is led by EU Committee Chairman, Lord Boswell of Aynho. Baroness Prashar (Chairman, Home Affairs Sub-Committee) and Lord Whitty (Chairman, Internal Market Sub-Committee) will also attend the conference.

Subjects under discussion

Debates will be held in the course of the conference on migration policy, the digital single market and EU enlargement. In addition the EU Committee, alongside the House of Commons European Scrutiny Committee, will co-host an informal meeting with parliamentarians to discuss the EU reform. The Select Committee is currently conducting an inquiry exploring the vision underlying the UK Government's EU reform proposals.
