Brexit - what role should Parliament play?

The House of Lords today debates two recent reports on Parliament's role in scrutinising Brexit and the triggering of Article 50.

Constitution Committee
The debate will see Lords discuss the Constitution Committee's report on The Invoking of Article 50, which was published on 13 September, and argued for Parliament to play a central role in the decision to trigger Article 50.
EU Select Committee
They will also discuss Brexit: Parliamentary Scrutiny, a report published by the EU Select Committee on 20 October, which urged that Parliament should be given an opportunity to debate and approve the Government's negotiating guidelines before the start of formal negotiations.
Debate
The debate will be opened by Lord Lang of Monkton, Chairman of the Constitution Committee, who will be followed by Lord Boswell of Aynho, Chair of the European Union Committee. Brexit Minister Lord Bridges of Headley will respond for the Government.
The debate is expected to start after 3:30pm on Tuesday 22 November in the main Chamber of the House of Lords.
