Chair quote
Florence Eshalomi, Chair of the Housing, Communities and Local Government Committee, said: “Many people dream of owning their own home, but leaseholders too often face a nightmare of soaring ground rents and unreasonable fees. It’s welcome that the Government has committed today to some of the steps needed to help ensure leaseholders and residential freeholders are given greater protections and that the Government will work to establish commonhold as the default tenure by the end of the parliament.
“Millions of people see their lives turned upside down by these issues, and I look forward to working with the Government to make sure leaseholders get a much better deal as effectively and as swiftly as possible.”
