Purpose of the session

The session will examine what practical and policy changes will need to be implemented to reach the Government's target recycling rate of 65% by 2035, and the financial implications for local authorities. It will look at how the Government's Waste Strategy will be funded and how effective proposals for a more consistent approach to waste and recycling collection systems across the country will address local need.

The committee will also examine the potential impact of measures such as the Extended Producer Responsibility on funding and Deposit Return Schemes in boosting recycling rates.
