Committee hears from developers, local government and housing associations on modern methods of construction

The Housing, Communities and Local Government Committee continues its inquiry into modern methods of construction on Monday 18 March when it takes evidence from witnesses including Barratt, Taylor Wimpey and the Local Government Association.

Purpose of the session
The Committee will hear from house builders about where they have adopted modern methods of construction and the benefits they have produced. It will investigate the challenges to further uptake including the need for investment, skills in the workforce and planning regulations.
The Committee will also investigate how local authorities and housing providers view modern methods of construction in their planning. It will examine if local plans provide scope for MMC to be used. It will also look at the experience of managing MMC properties in the long term, looking at how easy they are to maintain and the costs for repairs compared to traditional building methods.
