Committee asks about DWP plans in case of recession
12 August 2019
The Work and Pensions Committee is today publishing a letter (attached) from the Committee Chair, Rt Hon Frank Field MP, to the Prime Minister, asking about the Government's preparations for a potential future recession or economic shock.

- Work and Pensions Committee
The letter includes questions about what work the Government has done to understand how Universal Credit would work in a recession β including whether the Government would consider changing the UC taper rate or the work allowance (the amount that people can earn before their UC is affected) if there was a recession or economic shock.
It also asks: βIn light of recent announcements of increased Government spending on no deal preparations, does the Government have plans to increase funding for and staffing of Jobcentre Plus in the case of an economic shock or recession?β
