DWP questioned on advertising spend to boost UC image

Following a Guardian report claiming that DWP intends to spend significant sums on advertising to promote Universal Credit, against what is described as negative portrayal of the welfare reform and its impact by the media, the Committee has written to Work and Pensions Secretary of State Amber Rudd asking for sight of the leaked DWP intranet posting that sparked the report, and a series of detailed questions on its content.

The full list of questions in the letter is attached, but include who any proposals like those described in the article were approved by, at ministerial level; and what the actual, full costs of this “communication campaign” would be.
