Health impact of pensioner poverty: MPs to take evidence from Marmot Review author

25 April 2025

Professor Sir Michael Marmot, the author of a 2010 review that warned of rising health inequalities if relative poverty was not addressed, will give evidence to the Work and Pensions Committee as part of its Pensioner Poverty inquiry.

His 2020 follow-up review showed a widening life-expectancy gap over the intervening decade and called for a national strategy on ageing.

MPs on the Committee will also hear evidence from health professionals and advocacy groups on the impact of poverty on the health of older people and methods to improve health outcomes.
