Disabilities Minister to be questioned on DWP’s approach to vulnerable claimants

7 February 2025

MPs on the cross-party Work and Pensions Committee will question Disabilities Minister Sir Stephen Timms on how the Department for Work and Pensions protects vulnerable people engaged with the benefit system.

The evidence session will be an opportunity for the new Government to put on record its approach to vulnerable claimants and how it compares to the previous Government’s.

This will be the final session of the Committee’s Safeguarding Vulnerable Claimants inquiry originally started by the predecessor Committee in 2023 following high-profile deaths of DWP customers in vulnerable situations. The inquiry was briefly paused due to the General Election before being restarted by the new Committee.

Witnesses

From 09.00

  • Rt Hon Sir Stephen Timms MP, Minister for Social Security and Disabilities, Department for Work and Pensions (DWP);
  • Elizabeth Fairburn, Customer Experience Director, DWP; and
  • Dr Gail Allsopp, Chief Medical Officer, DWP.
