Health assessments for benefits: Work and Pensions Committee publishes Government Response to Report

26 June 2023

The Work and Pensions Committee publishes the Government Response to its Report on the effectiveness of the assessment process for health-related benefits.

The Committee’s report in April called for the implementation of several measures to improve trust in the process, drive down the high rate of decisions reversed on appeal and reduce waiting times.

The Government Response fails to commit to the Committee’s main recommendations, including on moving to an opt-out approach for recording assessments, claimants getting a payment where clearance times are not met, delaying the move from DLA to PIP for 16 year-olds to 18 and extending the time to return forms.
