Comment: Two Welsh freeports agreed
23 March 2023
Welcoming the announcement that bids from Celtic Freeport and Anglesey Freeport have been approved, Welsh Affairs Committee chair, Rt Hon Stephen Crabb MP, said:
“In 2020, our Committee concluded that freeports in Wales could play a significant role in economic development and regeneration, and boosting local supply chains.
We urged the UK Government not to ‘cap’ the number of freeports in Wales but to consider all bids on their merits. I therefore welcome today’s announcement that two freeports will now be established in Wales, potentially unlocking billions of pounds of investment and creating 20,000 jobs.”
